Foundation Gives $9,000 in SO Inspired Classroom Grants!

The S.O. Education Foundation recently awarded $9,000 in grants to support classroom enrichment throughout the South Orangetown Central School District.  Eight grants were awarded to support innovative project proposals submitted by teachers. Grants included funds to purchase science probes for high school biology and chemistry classes, flip cameras for second and third grade classes to allow students to prepare and share video clips about what they are learning, technology to incorporate even into physical fitness classes for teens, and child-sized gardening tools to maintain and care for the fitness trail behind Tappan Zee Elementary School, which was funded by the foundation when it was originally created.

Once again the Education Foundation will be contributing $2,500 to Project Graduation at the high school in June, 

 

Upcoming Events - Volunteers Wanted!


The Foundation is currently planning an "Aim for the Stars" fundraiser for this coming September to raise funds for the purchase of a STARLAB planetarium for K-12 student use and other programs to support students.  We are reaching out to the community for as many hands and minds as possible to volunteer to help do this!

Revolutionary Ideas for High School Senior Scholarship Awards from 2010

The South Orangetown Education Foundation awarded its first "Student Innovation Awards" of $750 each to two Tappan Zee High School graduating seniors, Nikitis Tampakis, who is attending Princeton University and Sal Rinchiera who is now at Harvard.

Project Graduation-A Safe and Special All Night Post-Graduation Party

The foundation was a lead sponsor of the 19th Project Graduation, an event organized and run by the Tappan Zee High School PTSA for the graduating senior class. 

A supervised, substance -free, all night celebration for graduates, it is an alternative to graduation night temptations. The foundation shares the PTSA's commitment to keeping TZHS graduates safe after the ceremony. 
 

 

 


Foundation Joins National School Foundation Association

The foundation has been accepted as a member of the National School Association Foundation,  national organization dedicated to "building financial foundations for America's schools. This resource puts our foundation in good company with many of the leading education foundations in the nation, and is a great resource as well continue to grow.
